My journey with chronic kidney disease began 5 years ago
Name: Shaila My journey with chronic kidney disease began 5 years ago. I was first diagnosed with an acute kidney infection, pyelonephritis which relapsed many times. I knew something was not appropriate with my body. I went for a scan and tests. The doctor suggested having the right kidney removed because it was barely functional. I went for surgery 4 years back. I suffered immense pain while moving, barely ate anything with several other complications popping in. Few years passed, my left kidney also started losing its function. The doctors suggested dialysis because that was the only way. I stared on hemodialysis ultimately. The nine months I went for dialysis, was the most terrible part of my life.
Nephron Function In The Kidney – Nephron Role In Kidney
During my time on dialysis, I was supported by a
few nurses with care and compassion.
However, at times nurses attached me to the
dialysis machine and went away. I still remember the session when my blood
pressure was very low, and the nurse did her work and started chatting with her
fellow nurses. I waved at her for help, and by chance, I was noticed by another
nurse in the room.
It is tough to be wholly dependent on the dialysis
staff for your needs. Throughout my sessions, I felt hopeless and made my mind
to change the hospital. The family suggested the same, so we thought of
transplants at the same time. But I was unfortunate maybe, got no donors to
match and so ultimately I planned to change the hospital.
The dialysis sessions in another hospital were
better than what I expected and experienced earlier. I felt better for the
first few days, but as usual, after 2 or 3 sittings, I showed no sign of health
recovery. I started learning more and more about dialysis and then found that
dialysis is not the solution, it is just a medium to filter the blood and I
felt I cannot spend my entire life waking up with dreams of a dialysis machine.
The next day seeing my health, my nurse told me
about the ayurvedic treatment. It was not something new to me, but I never
tried Ayurveda before. Ultimately my destiny guided me to Karma Ayurveda. Dr.
Puneet Dhawan remained quite empathetic with me during the treatment. Yes, you
inferred it right; I am not on the treatment and medications now.
It has been three months since I took medicines
from him and happily writing my journey or you can say the battle of kidney
disease.
I hope this journey of mine can enlighten your path
and guide you in the right away of how things can go wrong and right during the
treatment.
